About

My two very curious children, living in our fascinating natural world, love asking “WHY”. How are clouds full of water if water is heavy? Where do rivers come from? How far is the Sun? How do insects survive the winter? WHY?

For me, their parent, who shares their insatiable curiosity, it has been a great privilege and a great challenge to answer their questions well, to stoke the fire of their curiosity, without letting screens get in the way. As a lawyer, I learned how to explain complicated things simply. So, in my spare time, I read books, look for answers, and don’t stop until I understand a topic and find an intuitive, hands-on way to share the answer with my children.

Curiosity is truly a gift that keeps on giving. To exaggerate a bit, when you know a couple of simple tricks about reading the weather, noticing the sun and the clouds and the wind and the birds can be quite entertaining. If you never heard of reading the weather, on the other hand, walking around the city could become uncomfortably boring, hot, cold, wet, and tiring, and you wish to be back home in front of your screen.

It is easier and much more fun to bring more curious children into the fold. Group dynamics (usually) play out beautifully. Smaller children pay attention to the bigger children, bigger children have great ideas of their own (and pay attention to the adult instructor), and everybody gets a spark of curiosity and a sense of meaningful accomplishment – because, look how many other children also find this interesting!
